Meet the Lil Muslims: Characters That Inspire
Behind every name is a story. Behind every story is a value.
When we created the Lil Muslims, we didn’t just design characters—we built a world filled with purpose, personality, and heart. Each of our 22 characters represents an Islamic value we call an Iman Power—like Compassion, Knowledge, Patience, or Truthfulness. But these aren’t just words on a page. Our characters live these values through their hobbies, struggles, and everyday adventures.
We spent months researching each one—not just their names and values, but the cultures, countries, and communities they represent. As teachers, we’ve taught children from many backgrounds—Turkish, Somali, Bosnian, Lebanese, and more. Those classroom connections helped us shape our characters with real love and familiarity.
Grounded in Culture, Rooted in Faith
Each Lil Muslim comes from a different country, and we made sure to dig deep. We learned about the Muslim population in each region, common names, popular pastimes, and cultural highlights. For example:
- Sana from Palestine is studious and poetic. Her Iman Power is Knowledge, and she loves writing poetry—something that reflects a long tradition of storytelling and resistance through words in Palestinian history.
- Tasneem from India is creative and bold. Her love for Henna art ties in with her Iman Power of Inspiring—celebrating joy and beauty in her own way.
- Mikail from Australia is adventurous and loyal. He loves exploring, and his Iman Power is Loyalty—he’ll never leave a friend behind on a bush trail!
- Zahra from Lebanon is independent and bakes like a pro. Her Iman Power is Forgiveness—something that shines through when her cakes get eaten before she even gets a bite!
- And Abdo from Somalia? He’s fearless, loves collecting rocks, and lives by the Iman Power of Honesty—even if the truth gets him into a little trouble sometimes.
Written Like Old Friends
As the creators, we know each character like the back of our hands. When we write their stories, it’s like catching up with an old friend. We know how Nurul would react when something goes wrong in science class, or how Reza would comfort a sad sibling. Their personalities and Iman Powers naturally guide the way their stories unfold.
You’ll see it in our books—like Patience with Hawa, Responsibility with Nurul, and Compassion with Reza. These aren't random values picked for a moral lesson. They’re woven into who each character is.
Growing on the Journey
Our characters are around 8–10 years old, just like many of the children who read their stories. That’s why we chose to show both hijab and non-hijab versions of our girls. Because faith is a journey. And so is representation. Our goal is to show Muslim kids growing, learning, and making choices—with support, love, and inclusivity at every step.
Every child deserves to see someone who looks like them, thinks like them, or dreams like them in the stories they read and the toys they play with. That’s what Lil Muslims is all about.
